History and Hops - Getting to Gettysburg: The March through Loudoun
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Join us at Dragon Hops Brewery for a discussion of Loudoun's most important Civil War event. The federal armies passed through the county in June 1863 as they marched northward in pursuit of the Confederates at Gettysburg. The Army of the Potomac maneuvered, camped and fought here for ten days, finally crossing the Potomac just thirty-six hours before the battle of Gettysburg opened. What did they do in Loudoun? How did their stay in Loudoun shape the battle that followed? And what waypoints do we have today marking the passing of this great army? Local historian Craig Swain is a respected authority on Civil War artillery and the wartime events in Loudoun County. He provides battlefield tour services, authors the web-blog "To the Sound of the Guns" and is a voice for battlefield preservation.
