Natural and man-made hazards can cause engineered structures to fail. These events provide a natural laboratory to understand how critical community functions become disrupted and expose hurdles in the recovery process. Judy Mitrani-Reiser, Director of Disaster and Failure Studies at the National Institute of Standards and Technology will discuss how disaster metrology can be used to strengthen community resilience.
