Learn about this important historical resource made available by The Honorable Gary M. Clemens, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Eric Larson, Historic Records Manager of the Clerk of the Circuit Court Historic Records Division. They will discuss the preparation, conservation and digitization of the papers while Dr. Sheri Ann Huerta will offer insights on what life was like for the enslaved, and what the documents tell us about the nature of freedom in a slave society. Dr. Huerta is a history professor at George Mason University and is the author of A Great Uneasiness In Our County: Slavery and Its Influence on Family and Community Stability in Northern Virginia, 1782-1860.
